Sha Sha

This is a small flyer I pulled out of my archives ( that should have been posted in March!). At any rate, I loved the idea of a torn paper flyer/ad for a "paper" artist.

Virginia International Tattoo Logo

This logo took 3 years, over 50 different variations, and at least 100 "move over a squoshes". I am extremely pleased with/proud of it. It all began with two bagpipers and a dream. It has also become the gold standard in Leslie Logo Building endurance tests.

And the winner is....

This was the final selection for this years Town Point Virginia Wine Festival. I loved working on the designs for this nearly as much as I love attending.

Winefest and Me

Long before I ever attended a Town Point Wine Festival, I had an appreciation for the mermaid posters that accompanied the festival for years. I always wanted my crack at rendering the girls, and recently got the chance - but FE wanted to go a new direction instead using different interpretations of wine itself. These were my first drafts - that didn't make the cut (at least this year).

These were a rare opportunity for me to develop illustration specifically meant for repetitive graphic design use.

Bayou Boogaloo...... Revisited

I know I had already posted something for the Boogaloo a few months ago, but I recently got some accolades for it. So I thought I would repost the outside panels. The theme for the piece design wise was nothing fancy in terms of the folds, but spicy in terms of colors and layout.

On-site piece (tabloid) resized for blog viewing

The fonts used were Nueva (display) & Futura (body).

MJ Stuff

I've been glued to the TV set the past few weeks watching all of the Michael Jackson stuff. I couldn't help but feel a little nostalgic for the times I first heard his music. Thriller may have been the first or second video that I watched repeatedly on MTV. (I say first or second, because there were large periods of time where the only video I ever seen there was Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer"). AT any rate - similar to my Obama 11x17 I carved out, I thought I'd do some posters for Michael. This is a first draft of my first idea - am going to dirty up this one and eventually make one from the "thriller" error as well.

I want to "draw" the graphics, versus using the vector illos I've pulled apart from other things. I'll have to see how my time/process plays out.

Baby-Q

This technically doesn't fall under the realm of "illustration" - but I had fun designing this.

Concert Poster

AND... another two I'm submitting for free-tix.
These are fun if only because I'm doing them for no other reason than personal amusement.

Believe it or Not...

I'm a graphic designer too..
I made these two posters (hopefully) for free tix at the NorVA.
I'm going to both shows win or lose, but free would be the bees knees.

The concept for both: simple.
3eb I thought 3 "eyes" one of them blind.
I read an article about Gavin Rossdale switching to an acoustic guitar for some of his smaller venue shows, so I thought ..whimsical guitar art.

Going to do two more fun - Band of Horses and Snoop Dogg. I think more very literal translations are in order.

The Snarkabet

My nephews love (the work of) Eric Carle - and so do I! I got to thinking about making some sorta poster/multi-frame E.C. styled alphabet for them. I was also thinking I'd use it to show different font styles too. I have 26 creatures to make so I thought I'd post my first letter today. F is for Franklin Font & Frog. It's a work in progress.

"Mavericky"

I was going to pull this piece together around the premise that if the McCain-Palin ticket wins I'd move to Canada. Then I thought, I'm totally NOT moving to Canada or any other country for that matter, so I need to find a way to make this work.

I'm waiting for my magic hilarious quote to come for this illustration, but it's not happening. I tried layering "their" quotes in the background, but they were too boring and long winded to be poignant.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm not good at going negative (ha) or if I am so disturbed by all of McPalin's attacks on MY candidate. SO I'm open to ideas. This illo is not finished yet, so friends - Email me some ideas.

Show me the funny.

Yes, I CAN!

Some of the "home-made" artwork coming out of the Obama-campaign is simply fantastic.
I couldn't resist throwing my own stuff into the pile. I hadn't even heard of the term agit-prop art (art to agitate the masses) until this campaign. It's genius to enlist an army of disillusioned and broke graphic fartists.

IF you're into looking at cool posters and political art, I recommend omgposters.com it's a quick source of inspiration and small images to decorate your cube with.

Stay tuned for the next in the series loosely titled "CANADA".
